Do you want to inspire the people of Uppsala to live more sustainably? Do you have a passion for spreading knowledge about water, waste, and circular systems? Then apply for the position of Environmental Educator at Uppsala Vatten!

About the Position

As an Environmental Educator with us, you will welcome school classes and other visitors to our facilities and the Pump House. You possess a pedagogical ability to tell stories and teach in an inspiring and inclusive manner.

Your role also includes further developing educational materials as well as planning and participating in fairs and various events. You will also contribute to marketing our operations in various ways.

As an Environmental Educator, you will be responsible for:

  • Conveying knowledge about waste sorting and sustainable water use to students in Uppsala municipality, university and college students, industry professionals (water and waste), and the general public in a pedagogical manner.
  • Contributing to an understanding of the company's operations by developing, organizing, and conducting study visits at our facilities.
  • Developing and managing the museum activities at the Pump House.
  • Planning, conducting, and participating in events where we see a need to convey knowledge about waste sorting, circular economy/sustainable society, and sustainable water use.
  • Contributing to dialogue and openness in the company's issues towards customers, consumers, and citizens.
  • Contributing to behavioral changes aimed at a sustainable circular society.
  • Working for clean water and smart cycles for sustainable living in a growing Uppsala.

Uppsala Vatten och Avfall AB is a wholly owned municipal company that delivers drinking water, treats wastewater, collects and recycles household waste, and produces biogas. We actively work to increase knowledge about cycles and how to live more sustainably. One way we do this is by welcoming study visits to our facilities: the Kungsängsverket wastewater treatment plant, the biogas facility, the Hovgården waste facility, stormwater facilities, and recycling centers. Many study visits take place at the Pump House, which is a museum with an interactive exhibition. We welcome groups of children, students, and adults. Visits are conducted in Swedish or English. We also participate in various events and provide training in waste sorting.

Qualifications

We place great importance on your personal qualities and want you to share our core values, “we are attentive, forward-thinking, and curious,” and apply them in your professional role. To thrive in this role, we believe you are a good communicator who reaches out to people from various backgrounds and experiences.

You are driven to deliver good service and have a natural social ability that allows you to quickly build good relationships. You are creative and enjoy finding new solutions and ways of working, and you dare to take your own initiatives to achieve the best possible results. At the same time, you work in a structured manner and care about order and tidiness, but you also have the ability to be flexible and handle unexpected situations calmly and solution-oriented.

We see that you have:

  • A university degree, preferably in education or relevant experience.
  • Good experience in giving presentations to groups.
  • Interest and experience in pedagogically conveying knowledge to different target groups and ages.
  • Understanding of and interest in sustainability and a circular society.
  • Good knowledge, spoken and written, of English.
  • Good skills in the Office suite.
  • A valid driver's license (B).

Language skills beyond Swedish and English are an advantage.
